par- 27 octobre 2011 - ( maj : 30 novembre 2011 )
In the framework of the ESF project MicroDIce, we organize a conference on ice physics and ice deformation in honour of Paul Duval, emeritus researcher in the Laboratoire de Glaciology and Geophysique de l’Environnement, France. Throughout his career, Paul Duval created a strong and effective link between ice material science and the wider “material science community”. Ice has since been increasingly recognized as an important model material, because its strong viscoplastic anisotropy allows study and modelling of extreme material behaviour. Topics covered will range from dislocation dynamics in ice to large scale ice flow modeling, via strain heterogeneity characterization and modeling, brittle behavior and sea ice modeling, polar ice microstructure characterization, extraterrestrial ice rheology and ice and engineering. We will favour multi-disciplinary approaches which will enhance exchanges between metallurgists, geologists and glaciologists during the meeting by an appropriate selection of invited speakers. This is a key objective for the ESF MicroDIce network.
